Présentation Managing in a « pluricultural » world

Managing in today’s globalized, and fast-changing digital world is a huge challenge that needs contributions from research across all disciplines pertaining to management.  Within organizations, every individual maintains a cultural paradigm, which is derived from the multiple groups to which this person belongs: cultures are plural, resulting from formal groups (e.g., national, organizational, religious, ethnic, professional, political) and informal groups (e.g.., musical, IT, sport, research, ideological).

When we study cultures, and in order to fathom today’s managerial challenges, we cannot stop at national culture. The group adopts a systemic approach and investigates individuals’ multiple identities resulting from their diverse group memberships. We take a broad perspective on the concept of culture and investigate individuals’ values in relation to the individuals’ multiple cultural group norms, and also use the lenses of human needs and motives.

The following broad themes of research are only examples of the type of research issues that interest us.

1)      Managerial issues: Organizational culture and climate, Culture as a multilevel construct (group and individual), Change management as an alignment of stakeholders’ values, Diversity management as a way to leverage the potential of cultural differences, Competence and roles for organizational effectiveness, Rethinking Technology from a Cross Cultural Business Perspective, Poetic Management and Eco-Spirituality for a better Business World.

2)      Methodological issues: Mixed methods and multi methods, Grounded Theory as a research paradigm in itself.

3)      Ethical issues: Normative dimensions of human needs and motivations; Subjective values and their embeddedness or expressions in the context of corporate activities, Global Responsibility in a Culturally Diverse Green Environment, Cross Cultural Humanistic Business Education.

4)      Political issues : private values (individual and corporate) and their expressions in the context of legally constrained environments.
