Research Team on Performance Management

The Accounting, Law, Information and Operations Management Department inaugurated its first 2009 workshop on Performance Measurement and Management with Dr.Stan BRIGNALL, Professor at the Finance, Law and Accounting Group at Aston Business School, Birmingham U.K. Dr. BRIGNALL presented a recent paper on Organisational Performance and Financial Performance, 20 years after “relevance lost”.

altThis workshop inaugurated the activity of the Rouen Business School Research Team on Performance Management managed by Bruno COHANIER, co-chair of the Accounting, Law, Information and Operations Management Department.

The expertise of this research team relies on the know-how of Rouen Business School faculty as well as invited research fellows from partner institutions and their collaboration with corporations.
The research team competence relies on the combination of rigorous theoretical and applied research approaches. These are expressed through international publications and teaching.

Activities - Workshops

A second workshop is organized on Tuesday May 19th 2009 on the Campus of Rouen Business School on Behavioral Accounting Research around the work of Professor Jacob G. BIRNBERG, Robert W. Murphy Jr. Professor of Management Control Systems Emeritus, Katz Business School Pittsburgh University.

Professor BIRNBERG received the Lifetime Contribution to Management Accounting Award at the 2009 MAS mid-year meeting, held in January 2009 in St Petersburg, FL.  This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to management accounting education, research and/or practice over a sustained period of time through scholarly endeavors, teaching excellence, educational innovation and/or service to the Management Accounting Section.

The third workshop organized by the research team will be covering Cross Fertilization possibilities between Supply Chain Management and Management Accounting. It will be held in fall 2009 in cooperation with the Information and Operations Management Group at Aston Business School.

Activities – Research Collaborations

“International Comparative Performance Management: U.S. - France - Spain” is the current theme of a joint research undertaken by Bruno COHANIER and Dr.Mar VILA, Professor of Management Control at the Financial Management and Control Department of ESADE in Barcelona. Professor VILA is also the Director of the Centre for Tourism Management at ESADE.

In April 2009, Bruno COHANIER and Daniele PEDERZOLI (Rouen Business School Marketing Department Chair and Specialist of Retail Networks) are meeting their colleagues from:

  • The D.F. MILLER Center for Retailing, Education and Research, University of Florida;
  • The Center for Retailing Excellence, SAM WALTON College of Business, University of Arkansas;
  • And Professor Richard BAKER, Adelphi University, NY;

on the initiation of collaborative research programs on Comparative International Performance Measurement and Management.

Visiting Professors

The Research Team is pleased to welcome Dr. Thomas BUTTROSS, from the School of Business Administration, Penn State University, Harrisburg, PA, from 18 Mai until 19 June 2009. Professor BUTTROSS works on target costing and theory of constraints.

Other Events Organised by the Department

The Accounting, Law, Information and Operations Management Department in cooperation with IAE Besançon is also proud to announce the organization of a conference on “Audit and Business Governance Quality”. This research conference has received the support of the AFC (Association Francophone de Comptabilité) and the IFA (Institut Français des administrateurs)and will be held at Rouen Business School on June 25th, 2009. This event is organized by Riadh MANITA,  Associate Professor of the Accounting, Law, Information and Operations Management Department.

Les recherches en cours à Rouen Business School portent sur les thèmes suivants :

  • La mesure et management de la performance comparé entre les entreprises françaises et américaines ;
  • L’analyse de l’utilisation des systèmes de contrôle de gestion par les managers ;
  • L’étude des systèmes de mesure de la performance dont le tableau bord et le balanced scorecard.
  • Une recherche est actuellement conduite en partenariat avec Ernst & Young France et repose sur un état de l’art en Management de la Performance.
  • Un partenariat de recherche est engagé avec Aston Business School sur le thème : « Improving Supply chains through performance measurement and management » PMI2-Connect research group en cooperation avec les professeurs de Département Organisation and Information Management
